Tim Wigley aka Big Daddy
Drums and Vocals
I’ve been with COVERUP now two years…one of the
original members. I remember coming to my
audition and being really nervous…but once I met
these folks…I was put as ease in an instant. Playing
with people I consider to be family has made these
past 2 years an incredible experience.
My music career is pretty short! I’m a self-taught
drummer, having purchased my first kit in the late
90s and literally sitting in my living room with
headphones on…learning how to use two
limbs…then three…and eventually both hands and
both feet! I was sooo proud of myself.
My first band was a group of lobbyist friends in
Oregon…we called ourselves CAPITOL
PUNISHMENT. A power trio playing rock and
blues. I was definitely the weak link in the
band…having played the least by far. But we
played about 10-15 gigs….lots of political functions.
We had a great time and turned a few heads along
the way. I’m forever grateful to Ken Armstrong and
Justin Martin for putting up with my lack of playing
experience.
After that, I was part of two bands…SWEET JANE
and THE BONE DADDY CHICK MAGNET
EXPERIENCE. This was a combo of bands…but the
CHICK MAGNETS were truly fun. BONES was our
bass player and one of the coolest cats I’ve every
played with over the years. We had an incredible
keyboardist named Jeff; Linc Cannon on rhythm
guitar; and John Calloway on lead. This band truly
prepared me for COVERUP.
After 10 years in Portland, Oregon; I ventured out in
my new truck and drove the 3,000 miles to
Alexandria, VA. In January 2006. Soon after, I met
Craig on Craigslist and auditioned within a few
days. Since then, our hair (joke) has been on
fire…playing well over 100 gigs and our calendar
continues to stay full in the future.
My major musical influences are Don Henley of the
Eagles; Eric Clapton; Government Mule; and Robert
Cray. I’m 45 years old so I grew up with Zeppelin;
CCR; Beatles; Boston; Journey; Van Halen and
many more. My brother is a bassist in a band in my
hometown of Oklahoma City. My other brother is a
professional drummer with the Mike McCLure Band,
also from Okieland. Check them out on the web.
By day, I’m a lobbyist, campaign
consultant…having worked on campaigns of all
levels all across the country. My jobs have allowed
me to live in wonderful places like San Jose, CA;
Jackson, MS; Albuquerque and Santa Fe, NM;
Pueblo, CO; Fort Bragg, CA; Portland, OR. And now
here in the DC area. I’ve been coming to DC since I
was 6 years old with my parents. Always wanted to
live here…never got the chance until two years ago.
I enjoy it here very much!
As for equipment…I play a custom kit made by
Allegra Drum Makers of Portland, Oregon. Dave and
Tony are absolutely the best in the business. These

I also want to give a nod to my two wonderful kids
back in Portland…London and Rook. They are both
incredible kids who no doubt will be famous one
day!
COVERUP is a good group of people. We have fun
first and foremost. We’re all “weekend warriors” so
we might as well smile and have a blast along the
way.
To those fans who come out to see us each and
every weekend…we thank you so very much! You
give us so much inspiration and support by doing
so.
