Guitars and Sound
I’m big.  I’m red.  What else do you
need to know?

I’ve only started playing guitar about 2
years ago, and I’m still learning.  My
Dad was the one who introduced me
to it, and I slowly picked it up.  I don’t
think I will ever be famous for my
guitar playing, but I will always enjoy
it.

I am the mother of P.J., the big, red son of
Phil.  I thank God that P.J. did not inherit
his mother’s DNA that controls musical
ability, or complete lack thereof.  P.J. took
after his Dad in that and many other traits;
enjoying not being center stage and NOT
enjoying singing just to name a few.
Unfortunately I’m absolutely no help to P.
J. when it comes to figuring out a chord
sequence, deciding which amp and guitar
combo will be right for a gig, or what effect
box will produce a certain sound.  That
was just one of the millions of things that
Phil eagerly did for P.J.  Now that Phil has
passed, Craig and the other guys of
CoverUp are helping P.J. with that and
much more.

Should a good mother fear that her 16
year old is playing guitar with a bunch of
older men in smoky, dark bars?  Nah!
After all, we’re all family, and with Phil
watching over us all, I’m thinking that P.J.
will not be exposed to the stereotypical
addictions associated with musicians: the
inability to sleep before 3 o’clock in the
morning, the inability to say no to playing
whenever the opportunity arises, the
inability to play with the volume set lower
than 7, the inability to just say “NO!” to
going to Chuck Levin’s “Just to see what
they have…”  CoverUp is a very good
experience for P.J., even though he has to
endure playing geezer rock at times and
hanging with some people who are old
enough to be his father.  But everyone
knows that nobody could ever take Phil’s
place.  It’s just really nice that P.J. can still
have that extra connection with his Dad
when he plays with CoverUp.
